The Spanish Academy wasn’t born in a boardroom. It was born from conversations over coffee between five educators—Marina, Esperanza, Liliana, Luisandra and Natalia—who shared a deep belief in the power of language to connect hearts.
We saw a need in our community and felt a responsibility to act. This is the story of how our shared passion became a purpose-driven project.
A Gap We Couldn't Ignore
With years of experience in education across Sydney, we witnessed a growing gap that was deeply personal to us.
On one side, we saw families of hispanic background struggling to keep their heritage alive . We heard their concern as their children began to understand Spanish but replied only in English, and we felt their search for a community where their culture could be celebrated with pride.
On the other, we saw dedicated school principals and leaders who championed multicultural education but lacked the resources or specialized staff to offer a high-quality, authentic Spanish program. They were looking for a reliable partner who could help them enrich their school community without adding to their administrative burden.
We saw two needs, one single solution: a bridge.
Building the Bridge, Together
We knew the answer wasn’t another traditional language school. The solution had to be a new model built on partnership, flexibility, and a deep respect for both cultural heritage and the realities of the NSW education system. So, we founded The Spanish Academy.
We started not just to teach, but to partner. We designed a model that brings our programs directly to schools, making them accessible hubs for the entire community. We developed a specialised curriculum for Heritage Speakers that honours their unique background , while also providing a turnkey solution for principals that is professional, seamless, and aligned with the NSW Syllabus.
We began by collaborating with schools that generously opened their doors, sharing our vision to create vibrant, multicultural learning environments.
Our "Why," in Our Own Words
For us, every class is an opportunity to build a 'segundo hogar'—a second home. Our goal is to see a child's eyes light up with pride in their heritage, and to be the reliable partner a principal can trust to bring their vision to life. That is why we started, and it’s what drives us every single day.
